In this poignant and historic photograph, a crowd of mourners gathers in Red Square, Moscow, as the body of Vladimir Lenin is brought to lie in state on January 27, 1924. Lenin, the revolutionary leader and founding father of the Soviet Union, had passed away on January 21, 1924, at the age of 53, following a series of debilitating strokes. The scene in Red Square is one of solemnity and reverence, as the people of Russia pay their final respects to their beloved leader. Lenin's casket, draped in the Soviet flag, is carried on a gun carriage pulled by soldiers, surrounded by a guard of honor.
