Amidst the desolate and unforgiving expanse of Dartmoor in Devon, England, lies the legendary tomb of Lord Childe of Plymstock, also known as Lord Childes. The year was 1307, and the land was blanketed in an unrelenting blanket of snow, as Lord Childes, overcome by the harsh conditions, found himself facing the inevitable. With his final breaths, the dying lord penned a will in an unconventional manner - by writing it in the blood of his horses. The legend goes that Lord Childes, in his dying moments, bequeathed his lands to whoever would have the courage and the means to brave the treacherous moor and bury him. The monks of Tavistock Abbey, located in the nearby town of Tavistock, answered the call. Braving the elements and the potential danger, they embarked on a perilous journey to fulfill the dying lord's wish. Upon their arrival at the tomb, the monks found Lord Childes' body still preserved in the snow. They performed the necessary rites and buried the lord, thus fulfilling the conditions of his will. In return, they were granted the lands that Lord Childes had once ruled over. This historical event, shrouded in myth and legend, has been passed down through generations, serving as a reminder of the resilience and determination of those who lived in the harsh conditions of medieval England.
