Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912), a Dutch-born artist who became a leading figure in Victorian-era British art, is depicted in this photograph. Taken in 1912, the image captures the artist in the later years of his illustrious career, with his distinctive beard and piercing gaze. Born in Delft, Netherlands, Alma-Tadema initially studied law before turning to art.
