Margaret Elphinstone, who was born on the 7th of July, 1921, was a close friend and confidante of Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen. She had been one of the Princess' bridesmaids at her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on the 9th of November, 1947. But in this photograph, taken a year earlier, she is seen in a different role, as the proud sister of the groom, Lord Elphinstone. The wedding of the Hon. Andrew Elphinstone to the Hon.
