Kensington & Chelsea District School, blacksmiths shop
In 1876, the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea established a District School for pauper children at Banstead, Surrey (later known as Beechholme). As well as cottage homes, each housing 40 children, the site had its own schools, infirmary, chapel, swimming pool etc. Amongst trades taught to the boys was that of blacksmithing. Various examples of wrought ironwork can be seen in this photograph
