Part of an Italian expedition led by Count Ardito Desio, Lacedelli and Compagnoni became the first climbers to successfully reach the summit of K2, a feat that had eluded mountaineers for over 30 years. Located in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan, K2 stands at an impressive height of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet).
