EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the essence of cricket's golden age, featuring two of the most celebrated batsmen of the year 1901: Ranjitsinhji and C.B. Fry. K.S. Ranjitsinhji, an Indian prince and cricketing prodigy, was born in Nadiad, Gujarat, India, in 1872. He made his first-class debut for Sussex in 1892 and went on to become one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the game. His unique playing style, characterized by his graceful strokes and unyielding determination, earned him the nickname 'The Maharajah of Cricket.' Charles Burgess Fry, known as C.B. Fry, was born in Exeter, England, in the same year as Ranjitsinhji. He was not only an exceptional cricketer but also an accomplished athlete, excelling in football, rugby, and tennis. Fry made his first-class cricket debut for Somerset in 1896 and went on to represent England in both cricket and football. His versatility and athleticism made him a true sportsman and a crowd favorite. The year 1901 marked a significant milestone in their careers, as both Ranjitsinhji and Fry showcased their exceptional skills on the cricket field. This photograph, taken during that period, encapsulates the spirit of friendly competition and sportsmanship that defined the era. The image of these two great batsmen, with their focused expressions and poised stances, serves as a testament to their unwavering dedication to the game and their enduring legacy in cricket history.
