"This evocative photograph captures the young and passionate English poet, John Clare, in a moment of deep reflection. Taken in the year 1864, decades after Clare's most productive years, the image shows him sitting in a simple chair, dressed in a worn coat and a scarf wrapped around his neck. Born in 1793 in Helpston, near Peterborough, Clare is considered one of the greatest nature poets in the English literary history.
