Born on February 22, 1774, in Paris, France, Biot displayed an early aptitude for mathematics and science. He studied at the École Normale Supérieure and the École Polytechnique, where he honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of the natural world. In 1804, Biot was appointed professor of mathematics at the École Polytechnique, a position he held for over 50 years. During this time, he conducted groundbreaking research on the refraction of light and the behavior of waves. He also made significant contributions to the study of electromagnetism, collaborating with André-Marie Ampère on the development of the Biot-Savart law.
