This poignant photograph captures Jean-Joseph-Marie-Auguste Jaurès, a prominent French socialist statesman, in the final moments of his life. Taken in 1914 by the French photographer, Vilain, the image was made just days before Jaurès was tragically assassinated for his unwavering pacifist views.
