Title: A Visionary Scientist and Mason: John Theophilus Desaguliers, a French Huguenot Refugee in England John Theophilus Desaguliers (1683-1744) was a renowned French Huguenot scientist, mathematician, and the third Grand Master of the Freemasons in England. Born in Paris, Desaguliers was a devout Huguenot who, following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685, was forced to flee France and seek refuge in England. Desaguliers quickly gained recognition in England for his expertise and was appointed Professor of Mathematics at Gresham College in 1693.
