The image shows Parnell, the charismatic leader of the Irish National League, being forcibly removed from the chamber by the sergeant-at-arms, under the orders of the Speaker, Charles Stewart, in the midst of heated debates over Irish home rule. The incident occurred during a contentious session in which Parnell and other Irish MPs had disrupted proceedings by refusing to take their seats after being denied the opportunity to address the House on the issue of Irish land tenure. The event was a significant turning point in the struggle for Irish self-governance and marked the beginning of a series of events that would lead to the formation of the Home Rule League and the eventual passing of the Home Rule Bill in 1914.
