EDITORS COMMENTS
This print depicts the ancient Greek soothsayer Prylis, son of Hermes, deep in thought as he contemplates the strategic plan that would ultimately bring about the fall of Troy. Known for his divine inspiration from Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war, Prylis proposed the ingenious subterfuge of the Wooden Horse to the besieged Greeks. The Iliad, an epic poem attributed to Homer, recounts the Trojan War, a legendary conflict between the Greeks and the Trojans. After a fruitless nine-year siege, the Greeks, under the leadership of Odysseus, devised the cunning plan to build a large wooden horse and fill it with elite Greek soldiers. The Greeks then pretended to abandon the siege, leaving the horse as a peace offering to the Trojans. As depicted in this print, Prylis, with his piercing gaze and furrowed brow, stands amidst the ruins of war-torn Troy, contemplating the success of the ruse. The wooden horse looms large in the background, a testament to the Greeks' ingenuity and the Trojans' tragic folly. The classical Greek setting, with its intricate details and rich colors, transports us back to a time of heroic deeds and legendary battles. This print, a beautiful example of historical art, serves as a reminder of the enduring power of Greek mythology and the timeless tales of ancient Greece. The story of Prylis and the Wooden Horse continues to captivate audiences and inspire new generations, a testament to the enduring appeal of Greek mythology and the human spirit.
