Launched in 1911, the HMS Beaver was one of the 13 ships of the Acheron class, which were designed to counter the growing threat of German U-boats and surface raiders in the North Sea. The image shows the HMS Beaver cutting through the waves, her smoke stacks billowing out plumes of black smoke, while her crew stands at attention on the deck.
