The building is timber-framed with plaster infill, three storeys with attic and basement. The side elevation in the image has a pentice roof that wraps around the house over the ground floor, covering the large window and door to the right, which is currently used as the museum entrance. Above is a single large bay window, and on the second floor, a smaller bay window, all with own roofing, underneath the gable. The house is on St Peter's Street, just away from a junction that connects the north end of the street with High Town and Commercial Street, which can be seen in the background, with cars and pedestrians.
