EDITORS COMMENTS

Located in White City, Hammersmith, London, this imposing building served as a beacon of resilience and adaptability. In this snapshot frozen in time by photographer Bedford Lemere & Co. , we see a large crowd gathered outside the premises. Men and women from all walks of life have come together to support their country's war effort. Among them are workers donning protective clothing for gas attacks, diligently producing ammunition belts for machine guns or sewing nosebags for horses on those frontlines. Waring & Gillow was renowned for its craftsmanship and exquisite furniture that adorned opulent homes across Britain. However, when duty called, they swiftly shifted gears to contribute to the war machinery. Their factory at White City became an essential cog in supplying tents for military use - providing shelter amidst chaos.
