Roman trading ships IC060_002

Reconstruction illustration, by Frank Gardiner, depicting Roman trading ships laden with cargo, including a reconstruction of Blackfriars Ship 1, moored in the Pool of London near Blackfriars in the centre of Roman London in about the second century AD. The remains of the ship were excavated from the north bank of the Thames between Blackfriars Bridge and the rail bridge to its east.

Building Hadrian's Wall IC048_001

HADRIAN'S WALL, Cumbria. Reconstruction drawing by Philip Corke showing the construction of Hadrian's Wall to the immediate west of Banks East Turret (Turret 52a), in the early second century AD. Workers are building the faces of the wall and filling the core of the wall with rubble.
