ADMIRALTY ARCH, THE MALL, CITY OF WESTMINSTER, GREATER LONDON. A view of Admiralty Arch, floodlit and featuring decorations for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, viewed from the Mall at night.
The coronation of Elizabeth II took place on 2nd June 1953. Along the Mall, four Coronation Arches, designed by Eric Bedford, were erected. Lines of standards mounted with golden crowns, and from which hung scarlet banners bearing the royal cypher, E R, linked the arches. The decorations on Admiralty Arch included the royal cypher between two stylised anchors
