EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning 19th century oil painting is believed to be a portrait of Princess Louise Marie Therese Charlotte Isabelle of Orleans, also known as Louise of Orleans or Queen Louise Marie of the Belgians. Born in Paris, France, in 1812, Louise was the eldest daughter of King Louis-Philippe I of the French and his wife, Maria Amalia of the Two Sicilies. In 1832, at the age of 20, she married Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who later became King Leopold I of the Belgians. The painting, created by the renowned Belgian artist Ary Scheffer in 1833, captures the young princess in an elegant and refined manner. She is depicted wearing a fashionable dress of the time, adorned with intricate patterns and rich colors, possibly reflecting her Italian heritage. Her hair is styled in ringlets, a popular hairstyle during the Romantic era. The painting is now part of the collection of the Musée de la Vie Romantique in Paris, one of the city's most prestigious museums dedicated to Romantic-era art and culture. It serves as a reminder of the rich history and heritage of both France and Belgium, as well as the fashion and art of the 19th century.
