EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Lady Mackintosh, a prominent figure in the Jacobite movement of the Clan Farquharson. Born as Anne Farquharson, she was the daughter of John Farquharson, a staunch Jacobite chief from Invercauld. Married to Angus Mackintosh, Chief of the Clan Mackintosh, Lady Anne found herself caught up in the tumultuous aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. The image beautifully captures her essence and spirit. With a serene smile on her face and rosy cheeks that radiate warmth, Lady Mackintosh exudes resilience and determination. Her direct gaze reflects both strength and vulnerability, hinting at the challenges she faced during this turbulent period. The portrait is an exquisite reproduction based on an original painting by Allan Ramsay, one of Scotland's most renowned artists. It appeared in The Connoisseur magazine in 1909-1910 and has since become an iconic representation of Lady Mackintosh's legacy. Through this photo print, we are transported back to a time when loyalty to clan and cause defined lives. Lady Mackintosh stands as a symbol not only for her own story but also for countless others who fought passionately for their beliefs amidst political turmoil. As we admire this remarkable image today, let us remember those who came before us - their struggles and triumphs - ensuring that their stories continue to inspire generations yet to come.
