Bridport off L Orient, c1796. On 23 June 1795, the British fleet under the command of Admiral Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport (1726-1814) engaged with the French fleet under Louis Thomas Villaret-Joyeuse near the Ile de Groix, off Lorient in southern Brittany.
