Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, performing her first public function unaccompanied

Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, performing her first public function unaccompanied by other members of the Royal family, today, successfully launched the 28, 500 t union Castle liner " Edinburgh Castle" at Belfast. It was a perfect launching ceremony, and when the 17-year-old princess pressed a lever on a platform in Harland and Wolffs shipyard, and swung a bottle of South African wine against the stem of the ship, the liner slid down the slipways into the waters of Belfast Lough. When completed, the Edinburgh Castle will take up service on the South African run.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, at the tender age of 17, made history today as she performed her first public function unaccompanied by other members of the Royal family. The occasion was nothing short of spectacular as she successfully launched the magnificent union Castle liner, 'Edinburgh Castle', in Belfast. The atmosphere was electric as onlookers eagerly awaited this momentous event. Standing on a platform in Harland and Wolffs shipyard, Princess Margaret exuded grace and confidence. With a firm grip on a lever, she pressed it down with determination and swung a bottle of South African wine against the ship's stem. As if responding to her royal touch, the grand vessel gracefully slid down the slipways into the glistening waters of Belfast Lough. Captured in this breathtaking photograph is an awe-inspiring view from across Belfast Lough as 'Edinburgh Castle' embarked on its maiden voyage. The image beautifully captures both the enormity of this majestic liner and the serenity of its surroundings. This historic launch marks not only a significant milestone for Princess Margaret but also for our nation's fleet. Once completed, 'Edinburgh Castle' will proudly serve on South Africa's run, solidifying our strong ties with distant shores. This remarkable photograph is a testament to both royalty and maritime excellence - an iconic moment frozen in time that showcases strength, elegance, and ambition.
