EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from Mary Evans Picture Library depicts King Henry VII of England, the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty, signed his name in this historic document. Born on January 28, 1457, Henry ascended to the throne on August 21, 1485, following his victory in the Battle of Bosworth Field. His reign, which lasted from 1485 to 1509, marked the end of the Wars of the Roses and the beginning of a new era in English history. Henry VII is shown here in regal attire, wearing a fur-lined robe and ermine-trimmed mantle, with a crown resting on a table beside him. The autograph in the lower right corner of the image, written in a bold, confident hand, attests to the authenticity of the document and adds an intriguing personal touch to this historical artifact. During his reign, Henry VII implemented a number of significant political and economic reforms, including the establishment of a centralized government and the creation of the Court of Augmentations to confiscate the lands and wealth of those who had opposed him during the Wars of the Roses. He also worked to strengthen England's relations with other European powers, including Spain and France, and began the construction of the magnificent Palace of Westminster. This print offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of England's most influential monarchs and provides a tangible connection to the rich history of the Tudor period. With its stunning detail and historical significance, it is a must-have for any history enthusiast or collector of fine art.
