Born Henri de Bourbon in 1553, he ascended to the throne of Navarre in 1572 and later became King of France in 1589, following the death of Henry III. Henri IV was a charismatic and popular monarch, known for his military prowess and his ability to unite the fractured kingdom. He famously converted to Catholicism in 1593, a move that helped to heal the wounds of the religious wars and pave the way for a more united France.
