The Grenadier Guards, an elite infantry regiment of the British Army, are seen here in their distinctive bearskin hats and scarlet uniforms, forming up in the square before setting off on their arduous journey. The Crimean War, which lasted from 1853 to 1856, was a significant event in British and European history.
