The first grave of Baron Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen (1892-1918), also known as the Red Baron, legendary German fighter pilot during the First World War. Born on May 2, 1892, in Germany, Richthofen rose to fame as the top-scoring fighter pilot of the war, with a total of 80 confirmed victories. His distinctive red triplane and fearless demeanor in the skies made him an iconic figure, both feared and revered by Allied forces. On April 21, 1918, Richthofen was engaged in a dogfight near Vaux-sur-Somme and was fatally wounded. He was initially buried in the nearby Château-sur-Cojeul, but his remains were later transferred and reinterred in Germany's Friedhof Valdahon in Altenburg, Thuringia, on March 4, 1922.
