EDITORS COMMENTS
Once upon a time in the 16th century, in a quaint and whimsical tale, lived a hero named Tomb Thumb. This diminutive figure, renowned in folk lore as the protagonist of "Gossip about Fairies" story number 26, was known for his courage and adventurous spirit, despite his tiny size. One sunny day, as Tomb Thumb was wandering through the enchanted forest, he stumbled upon a scene that would test his bravery to the limit. A cow, with her large, curious eyes, was peacefully grazing in a clearing. In her mouth, she held a large, ripe cabbage, the very same one that Tomb Thumb had coveted for his lunch. The little hero, feeling a pang of hunger, approached the cow, hoping to negotiate a trade or perhaps even sneak a bite. However, as he drew closer, the cow, startled by his presence, turned to face him, revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth. Tomb Thumb, quick on his feet, grabbed his trusty lantern and shone its light in the cow's eyes, momentarily blinding her. Seizing the opportunity, he snatched the cabbage from her mouth and made a hasty retreat. The forest echoed with the cow's displeased mooing and the whispers of the fairies, who were amused by Tomb Thumb's clever trick. This charming image, captured from the pages of a 16th century folklore book, depicts Tomb Thumb in his heroic moment, lantern in hand, and the surprised cow looking on. The illustration, with its intricate details and rich colors, transports us back in time, allowing us to relive the adventures of this beloved hero from a bygone era.
