EDITORS COMMENTS
The Goldener Reiter, or Golden Rider, is a renowned equestrian statue located in the heart of Neustadt, Dresden, Germany. This magnificent work of art depicts Augustus the Strong, the former Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, riding triumphantly on a golden horse. The statue, which stands approximately 11 meters tall, was created by the Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1670 and is considered one of the most significant sculptures of the Baroque period. Augustus the Strong, who ruled from 1694 to 1733, was a passionate patron of the arts and sciences. He commissioned numerous works of art and architecture during his reign, including the Goldener Reiter statue. The sculpture was originally located in the Zwinger Palace, but was moved to its current location in 1871. The Goldener Reiter is a symbol of power, triumph, and prosperity. The statue's intricate details, such as the lifelike features of Augustus and the flowing mane and tail of the horse, are a testament to Bernini's masterful craftsmanship. The statue's golden finish, which was added in the late 19th century, adds to its grandeur and makes it a striking sight, especially when the sun reflects off its surface. The Goldener Reiter is not only a cultural landmark of Dresden, but also a popular tourist attraction. Visitors from all over the world come to marvel at this magnificent work of art and to take photographs of it. The statue is a reminder of the rich history and cultural heritage of Dresden and Germany as a whole.
