Hirsuta Collection

Hirsuta is a genus of primates in the family Pitheciidae, and are found in South America, mainly in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru and can arboreal animals that live in tropical rainforests and cloud forests. They have long arms and legs for climbing trees and their fur is black or dark brown with lighter patches on their faces, chests, bellies and limbs. Hirsuta feed mainly on fruits, flowers and leaves but also eat insects when available, and are social animals that live in small groups of up to ten individuals consisting of one adult male, several females and their offspring. Their activity peaks during the day but they can be active at night as well. Hirsuta play an important role in maintaining healthy forests by dispersing seeds through their droppings which helps to regenerate vegetation after natural disturbances such as storms or fires.
