1865 Post Card Sailor 1936

EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful postcard image captures a young and vibrant George V, King of Britain, in his naval uniform from the early years of his reign. The photograph was taken in 1910, just a few years after he ascended to the throne following the death of his father, King Edward VII, in May 1910. George V served in the Royal Navy from 1877 to 1891, and this connection to the sea and the navy was an important part of his identity. Born on June 3, 1865, George V was the second son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He was educated at home and served in the Royal Navy before embarking on a political career. He became Prince of Wales in 1891 and was married to Princess Mary of Teck in 1893. When his father died, George V succeeded to the throne and was crowned on June 22, 1911. George V's reign was marked by significant events in British history, including the First World War and the Irish War of Independence. He played a key role in leading the country through these challenging times, and his reign is remembered for its stability and continuity. George V died on January 20, 1936, and was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII. This postcard is a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering a glimpse into the life of a monarch who played a crucial role in shaping the history of Britain in the early 20th century. The image of George V in his naval uniform reminds us of his military background and the importance of the Royal Navy in British history.
