A diagrammatic drawing of H.M.V Britannia, the royal yacht, first launched in 1953 and decommissioned in 1997. Featured in the Royal Wedding Number of The Illustrated London News in May 1960 as it was where the newly wed Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong Jones spent their honeymoon, sailing around the Caribbean. The old centre of Bergen (Bryggen), Norway

The city of Bergen was founded in 1070. In 1360 a Kontor of the Hanseatic League was established there, and as the town developed into an important trading centre, the wharfs were improved. The administrative buildings of Bryggen housed clerks from many areas, especially Germany. The main trade was dried cod from Northern Norway in return for cereals from mainland Europe.The oldest part of Bergen, which is called Bryggen (Norwegian, The Wharf ), is a series of Hanseatic commercial buildings lining the eastern side of the fjord coming into Bergen, Norway.Bryggen was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979

Endeavour II

A drawing of Endeavour II, the British challenger in the 1937 Americas Cup races, which was paid for and helmed by Thomas Sopwith, the famous aeroplane pioneer. Endeavour II had the misfortune to come up against one of the greatest yachts to compete in the Americas Cup, Ranger, and the Americans won the 1937 contest comprehensively 4 - 0
