The 19th century, also known as the XIX secolo in Italian, was a time of great artistic expression and historical significance. Artists during this period captured various scenes and emotions through their masterpieces. One such artwork is "The Walnut Tree in Benevento (the Witches Sabbath)" painted between 1822-26. This watercolor on paper depicts a mysterious gathering under a walnut tree, believed to be a witches' sabbath. The dark tones and eerie atmosphere transport viewers into the realm of folklore and superstition. In contrast, "Dromedary, palm tree and young boys" showcases the talent of sculptor Giovanni Battista Comolli. Carved from Carrara marble around 1818-28, this detailed piece captures the grandeur of Alexander the Great's entry into Babylon. The inclusion of young boys adds an element of innocence amidst the triumph. Francesco Ferrucci's death at Gavinana in 1852 is immortalized by artist Luigi Sabatelli in his oil painting titled "Francesco Ferruccis Death. " This poignant depiction portrays the fallen hero surrounded by comrades mourning his loss on canvas. Another emotional scene depicted is Ricciardino Langoscos mother searching her son's corpse after he was killed during Matteo Visconti's conquest of Pavia in 1315. Painted by Francesco Hayez in 1846, this oil masterpiece titled "Ricciardino Langoscos Mother Searching" evokes feelings of grief and despair. Moving onto Marco Botzaris' demise portrayed through another oil painting from around 1841 called "Marco Botzaris Death, " we witness an intense moment frozen in time. The bravery and sacrifice shown by Botzaris are beautifully captured on canvas. Sculptor Adolfo Wildt created "The Adolescent, " a bronze sculpture that embodies youthfulness with its delicate features frozen forever in metal. This piece represents the timeless beauty and fleeting nature of adolescence.
