Edward refuses succour to his son at Crecy, 1864. King Edward III, (1312- 1377) standing on a hillside refusing succour to his son Edward the Black Prince, (1330-1376)) at the at the Battle of Crecy, France, 1346. The black prince was an exceptional military leader, and his victories over the French at the Battles of Crecy and Poitiers made him very popular in England during his lifetime. Two women preparing for show at Windmill Theatre 1939

Two women in tin helmets photographed as they prepare for a show at the Windmill Theatre. The Windmill Theatre, which today uses the motto "we never closed", had just reopened after its only compulsory state-enforced closure between 4th-16th September 1939. The Sphere comments on the "topical" nature of the performance the women were preparing for which featured tin hats and gas masks. Date: September 1939
