Vyborg, a city rich in history and culture, has witnessed numerous significant events throughout the centuries. From its bustling market place in Viborg, Finland, captured beautifully in a stereograph from 1897, to the boats reconnoitring the Passage to Wyborg depicted in an engraving. The echoes of past revolts can still be felt as we see a patrol hunting down suspects on the outskirts of St. Petersburg following one such uprising at Vyborg. The milkmaid and tower at Vyborg come alive through a vibrant chromolitho capturing their essence. The Battle Bay holds immense historical importance as it unfolded on July 3rd, either in 1790 or 1791 depending on sources. Johan Tietrich Schoultz's creation immortalizes this battle that shaped the region's destiny. Moving forward into the early 20th century, another patrol is seen relentlessly pursuing suspects after yet another revolt rocked Vyborg. A sea chart from c. 1786-88 showcases Vyborg bay's strategic significance during those times. A medal commemorating the capture stands as a testament to its conquest during the Great Northern War in 1710. Between 1667 and 1700, an artist captures an enchanting view with its charming streets and buildings standing tall. The Siege of Viborg on June 13th, 1710 left an indelible mark on history; Alexei Ivanovich Rostovtsev skillfully portrays this event through his artwork created around 1715. An anonymous artist takes us back to approximately1840 with their depiction Castle - a symbol of strength and resilience. Lastly, Jacob Gillberg's map showcasing The Battle of Viborg Bay transports us back to that fateful year -1790- when naval forces clashed fiercely for supremacy over these waters. Vyborg remains not just a city but a living testament to the events that have shaped its destiny.
