Gas fuel compressor plant
Gas fuel compressor plant for the North European gas pipeline. This is the Babayevskaya gas compressor station, in Russia's Vologda region, north of Moscow. Also known as Nord Stream, this pipeline is being built from Russia to Germany, passing under the Baltic Sea. Up to six compressor stations will be used to maintain a pressure of 100 atmospheres and keep the natural gas flowing through the pipeline. The overland section of the pipeline in Russia will be 917 kilometres long. Construction of the overland section began on 9 December 2005 and is scheduled for completion in 2010. Photographed on 24 April 2006.
