Venus is the second planet from the Sun and the sixth-largest planet in our Solar System. It is named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, Venus. It is often referred to as Earth’s “sister planet” due to its similar size, mass, proximity to the Sun, and bulk composition.
The surface of Venus is very hot and dry with temperatures reaching up to 864°F (462°C). The atmosphere on Venus consists mostly of carbon dioxide with clouds of sulfuric acid droplets which cause a greenhouse effect that traps heat in its atmosphere. This makes it one of the hottest planets in our Solar System.
Venus has no moons or rings like other planets in our Solar System but does have several volcanoes that are still active today. The surface also contains numerous impact craters from meteorites that have collided with it over time.
The most interesting feature on Venus is its retrograde rotation which means it rotates clockwise instead of counterclockwise like all other planets except Uranus do. This means that a day on Venus lasts longer than a year! A day on Venus lasts 243 Earth days while a year only takes 225 Earth days!
Despite being so close to Earth, we know very little about what lies beneath its thick clouds and extreme temperatures making it one of the most mysterious places in our Solar System!
