The wedding cake and gifts presented to Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh and Prince Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse on occasion of their marriage on the 19th April 1894 in Coburg, Germany. The diamond brooch was a gift to Princess Victoria Melita from her grandmother, Queen Victoria, and the silver-framed mirror came from the officers of the 1st Wiltshire Regiment. The wedding cake was prepared by Messrs. Gunter and co. of Berkeley Square and stood at five feet, six inches high, weighing about 150 lbs. Date: 1894

Royal Wedding Presents at St Jamess Palace

A general view of the magnificent array of presents in the main salon, one of the three rooms in St. James's Palace to which the public were admitted. The gifts were given on the occasion of the wedding of Prince George, Duke of Kent to Princess Marina of Greece at Westminster Abbey on 29 November 1934. Altogether there were nearly a thousand gifts, guarded day and night by specially picked detectives. Among the donors were European and Asiatic Kings, Queens and Princes, disabled soldiers, servants on the Balmoral estate, corporations, guilds and members of the Services. Date: 1934
