The Thirty Years War, which lasted from 1618 to 1648, was a devastating conflict that engulfed Europe. One of the significant events during this war was the surrender of Breda after a long siege. This marked a turning point in the war and showcased the strength and determination of both sides. Another notable event was the Battle of Rocroi, where the Duke of Enghien led his troops to victory against formidable opponents. The battle illustrated the prowess and strategic brilliance of Enghien, leaving a lasting impact on military tactics. In January 1634, Wallenstein's Generals gathered for an extravagant banquet, unaware that it would be their last. This gathering became infamous due to its connection with an assassination plot against Marshal Concino Concini, Marquis d'Ancre. It highlighted the political intrigue and power struggles prevalent during this tumultuous period. The helmet worn by a cuirassier officer during this time serves as a reminder of the brutal nature of warfare in those years. Soldiers were recruited and equipped amidst chaos and uncertainty as nations fought for dominance. Gustav Adolf's death at the Battle of Luetzen shook Europe to its core. The Swedish king's demise left behind a void that had far-reaching consequences for both sides involved in this protracted conflict. Meanwhile, Louis II Bourbon-Conde led French troops to victory at Rocroy against Austro-Spanish forces. This triumph demonstrated France's growing military might under Bourbon-Conde's leadership. Wallenstein himself met an untimely end when he was found dead by his astrologer Seni. His mysterious death added another layer of intrigue to an already complex war filled with treachery and betrayal. Towards the end of this prolonged conflict, Spain agreed to sign the Treaty of Pyrenees following negotiations between King Louis XIV and Philip IV on Paisans Island in November 1659. This treaty brought about much-needed peace and marked the end of the Thirty Years War.
