"Unveiling the Tees Barrage: A Historic Moment in Stockton's History" On July 13th, 1995, Duncan Hall, Chief Executive of TDC, stood proudly on the Tees Barrage site as he witnessed a monumental achievement for the region. The culmination of years of hard work and dedication had finally come to fruition. The significance of this occasion was further highlighted by the presence of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh himself. His visit to Tees Barrage for its official opening added an air of royalty and prestige to this momentous event. But before that grand day arrived, there were countless hours spent constructing this engineering marvel. On May 18th, 1993, Prince Philip paid a visit to witness firsthand the progress being made on this ambitious project. The construction team worked tirelessly under his watchful eye as they laid down each brick and poured every ounce of concrete. Finally, on December 12th, 1994, with great anticipation and excitement in the air, the Teesside Barrage was raised high above the waters of River Tees. As it held back these mighty waters at last, it symbolized not only flood protection but also a gateway to new opportunities for Stockton. Fast forward to that memorable day in July when Prince Philip returned once again; this time for its official opening ceremony. The teeming crowd eagerly awaited his arrival as they marveled at what lay before them – the magnificent Teesside White Water Course at Tees Barrage. This state-of-the-art facility would soon become a hub for local enthusiasts and international athletes alike who sought adrenaline-pumping adventures amidst swirling rapids and challenging waves. As we reflect upon these historic moments captured within our memories forevermore - Duncan Hall's proud stance overlooking his vision brought life into reality; Prince Philip's unwavering support throughout every step taken towards completion – we cannot help but feel immense pride in the Tees Barrage.
