In Charles Dickens' classic novel, 'The Old Curiosity Shop,' Dick Swiveller, a young, impulsive man, is a frequent visitor to the shop run by the kind-hearted old man, Mr. Quashey. Among the shop's many curiosities, Dick becomes particularly intrigued by the Marchioness playing cards, which he believes bring him good luck. As Dick's fortunes change, so does his relationship with the Marchioness. From a chance encounter in the shop to a romantic rendezvous, their connection deepens. However, Dick's luck runs out when he gets involved with the notorious trotting team, Edward and Swiveller, led by the cunning Frank Works. Dick's involvement with the team leads him down a dangerous path, and he finds himself in a public house, drowning his sorrows.
