Artist's concept of an Earth buried by layers of cities built by a hundred million generations of our descendants. The Earth as it may appear 500 million years from now. By this time the Sun will have grown considerably hotter due to its natural evolution as a type G5V star, making the Earth a hotter place as well.
While it is unlikely that beings that look or think anything like us would still populate the Earth 500 million years from now (humans would have evolved on to other forms; evidence 500 million years ago the most highly evolved life forms on the Earth were fish), if we were still here in our present form, we would likely find the Earth very inhospitable.

An oblique-angle view of San Francisco's financial district Featured Print

An oblique-angle view of San Francisco's financial district

An oblique-angle view of San Francisco's financial district, captureing a sense of the citya€™s tall skyscrapers: a unique perspective on a unique city. Among the many emblems of San Francisco evident in this image is the Transamerican Pyramid Building, the Chinatown District, Union Square, and Market Street. In the lower left corner of the image, SBC Park, home to baseballa€™s San Francisco Giants, is clearly visible. Its right field wall juts out onto McCovey Cove, giving this ballpark the unusual distinction of being the only park where kayakers can catch home runs hit out of the park. The Bay Bridge connects the city with Oakland, and beyond that, to Interstate 80, which runs from San Francisco to New York City through Salt Lake City, Chicago, and other large cities.
