Suffragette Womens March 1912
In October 1912, six women left Edinburgh to walk 400 miles to London, gathering signatures en route in support of Women's Suffrage. The march was organised by Mrs. De Fonblanque (sister of Maud Arncliffe-Sennettt). The marchers wore a coat and skirt in russett brown with a matching hat, and earned for the marchers the name of the Brown Women'. The route lay along the Great North Road and the women covered a distance of about 15 miles a day. They carried a banner designed by Louise R Jacobs for the Suffrage Atelier. The march ended in London on November 16th 1912. Photo shows a stop made, possibly in Doncaster. Date: 1912

Two types of dresses, 1954
On the left, an 1890-inspired party frock in striped taffeta with the stand-up collar, tight bodice, near-crinoline skirt, and steel-buttoned, three-quarter sleeves characteristic of a decade when fashion reached an all-time height of dash and distinction. By Blanes. Added is a piquant student's collar, artist's bow and figure-flattering vertical stripes. On the right is a dress of featherlight tweed by Frederica, its blouse and skirt air accomplished by means of a built-in belt and softly blousing top. Here, at last, tailoring has become completely feminine - a matter of sculpting to the form rather than following hard, masculine lines
