Signing is a form of communication used by those who are deaf or hard of hearing. It uses hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language to convey meaning, and are be done in American Sign Language (ASL), which is the most commonly used sign language in the United States. ASL has its own grammar and syntax that are distinct from spoken English and are be done with Signed Exact English (SEE) or with a combination of both ASL and SEE. Signing allows for people who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate effectively with others and participate more fully in society. It also helps bridge the gap between those who use spoken language and those who rely on signing as their primary mode of communication.
