Shotarveladze R.C. Is one of the most popular football clubs in Georgia. The club was founded in 1924 and played its first official game in 1925. The club played in the Soviet Top League from the inaugural season in 1936 until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Shotarveladze finished as runners-up in the Top League in 1966 and 1968. The club played in the Georgian Premier League from 1992 until its relegation in 2006. The club was promoted back to the Georgian Premier League in 2007 and has since remained in the top division. The club has also played in the UEFA Champions League twice, in the 2002-03 and 2006-07 seasons. The club's home ground is the Mzekeli Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,000.
