The sea hare, also known as the sea slug, is a fascinating creature that inhabits various marine environments. One particular species, Aplysia punctata (Aplysia hybrida), is captured in a handcoloured copperplate engraving by James Sowerby from The British Miscellany. This large herbivorous seahare can be seen crawling around common eelgrass, showcasing its unique appearance and movement. In another captivating image, the lined sea-hare (Stylocheilus striatus) adults are observed engaging in group mating on black sand in Retak Larry, Lembeh Straits of Sulawesi. Their synchronized behavior and striking patterns create a mesmerizing sight. Moving to Brandy Bay in Isle of Purbeck, Dorset, England during August reveals an adult sea-hare (Aplysia punctata) peacefully resting on the seabed. Its presence adds vibrancy to the underwater landscape while highlighting the diversity of marine life found there. Nighttime brings about different encounters with these intriguing creatures. The ramose sea-hare (Petalifera ramosa) can be spotted resting on seagrass at night in Lembeh Straits of Sulawesi. Its delicate features and calm demeanor make it a captivating subject for observation. Another nocturnal inhabitant is the long-tailed sea-hare (Stylocheilus longicauda). Found in Lembeh Straits of Sulawesi within the Greater Sunda Islands, this adult specimen showcases its elongated tail as it navigates through its habitat under cover of darkness. Returning to Retak Larry in Lembeh Straits once again presents us with an awe-inspiring scene - lined sea-hares engaged in group mating on black sand. This display highlights their social nature and reproductive behaviors.
