The sawfish, also known as the carpenter shark or Pristis pristis, is a fascinating creature found in the Mediterranean and Atlantic waters. With its long, toothed snout resembling a saw, it is truly a unique species. One particular type of the largetooth sawfish (Pristis microdon), which shares its habitat with the blue shark (Prionace glauca). These majestic creatures can grow to impressive sizes and are often admired for their sheer power. In fact, there have been remarkable sightings of giant sawfish being hung up by masts in Florida, United States. One such sighting was captioned as "A Leviathan of the Deep: The Largest Fish Ever Caught On Light Tackle". This enormous Saw-Fish weighed a staggering 8501b and was caught in one of the Florida Keys. Truly an incredible feat. Historical records also depict the horn or nose of the Saw Fish alongside other intriguing marine creatures like Boa Constricta and Sea Hedgehog. These illustrations from 1810-17 showcase not only their physical features but also highlight their significance in scientific exploration. Notable figures like Lady Richmond Brown and Mr Mitchell Hedges made headlines with their record catch - a massive sawfish weighing 5700 lb captured in black-and-white photo glory. Such captures serve as testaments to both human curiosity and nature's awe-inspiring creations. Artistic representations throughout history further emphasize our fascination with these sea dwellers. From chromolitho prints depicting various sea fish to engravings showcasing Hammerhead Sharks alongside Sawfishes from 1859; they all capture our imagination. Sawfishes are often seen swimming alongside other marine species such as angular rough sharks, spotted catsharks, and young ones too. Their presence adds diversity to underwater ecosystems while reminding us of nature's intricate balance.
