In these captivating chromolithos, we witness key moments that define this enigmatic figure. In "Magic Flute Liebig 2" and "MAGIC FLUTE LIEBIG 4, " we catch glimpses of Sarastro's grand temple dedicated to Isis and Osiris, and is within these hallowed walls that he officiates as the High Priest, guiding Tamino and Pamina through their trials. Amidst the drama, we see Three Attendants on the Queen of Night bravely saving Tamino by killing a menacing snake in a stunning chromolitho. This act sets in motion an intricate web of alliances and conflicts involving Sarastro. Papageno, our beloved bird-catcher, summons his soulmate Papagena using magic bells in another vibrant chromolitho. Monostatos, a Moor serving under Sarastro's command as depicted in "Costume design for Monostatos, " attempts to harm Pamina but is thwarted by none other than Papageno himself. "The Queen of Night Meets Tamino and Papageno" showcases an encounter between these two opposing forces – darkness versus light – with Sarastro standing tall amidst it all. His calm demeanor hints at hidden depths yet to be revealed. As Pamina pleads with him desperately in "Pamina Entreats Sarastro To Let Her Go, " we sense conflicting emotions within our high priest. Is there more to his intentions than meets the eye? Only time will tell.
