Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood, also known as Lord Hood, was a prominent figure in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Born in 1724 and passing away in 1816, he left a lasting legacy that is still celebrated today. One of the notable contributions associated with Lord Hood is the exquisite collection of tableware known as the Hood Service. Created by renowned silversmith Paul Storr between 1806 and 1808, this collection includes an entree dish with cover, a soup tureen with cover, and a sauce tureen with cover. These pieces showcase Storr's exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. In addition to his patronage of fine artistry, Lord Hood was also depicted in several satirical prints by Thomas Rowlandson during the late 18th century. One such print titled "Madam Blubber On Her Canvass" portrays him alongside other political figures of the time. Another print called "The Drum Major of Sedition" humorously depicts Lord Hood amidst political turmoil.
