Henri de La Rochejaquelein, the youngest general of the Royalist Vendean insurrection during the French Revolution, was a key figure in the war in Vendee. Born on August 30, 1772, he played a crucial role in defending the Tuileries and served as an officer of the Constitutional Guard of Louis XVI. Despite his young age, Henri displayed remarkable leadership skills and bravery on the battlefield. In this captivating engraving from c. 1815, we see Henri du Vergier de La Rochejaquelein depicted with great poise and determination. His unwavering commitment to his cause is evident through his piercing gaze and confident stance. The map of Deux-Sevres Department (No. 79) provides us with geographical context for understanding where these events unfolded. General Louis Duverger, marquis de La Rochejaquelein (1777-1815), shown here in a portrait from ca 1819 by Guerin, was another member of this illustrious family who continued their legacy even after Henri's untimely death at just 21 years old.
