Robins are small, plump birds that are native to North America and Eurasia. They have a bright orange-red breast and grey-brown upperparts and can often seen hopping around on lawns or in parks, searching for worms and insects to eat. They also eat berries and other fruits, as well as seeds. In the winter months they may form large flocks in search of food. Robins sing a cheerful song during the breeding season which is usually from March to June in the northern hemisphere. During this time they build nests of grasses, mud, twigs and feathers high up in trees or shrubs where they lay their eggs which hatch after about two weeks, and are live for up to 14 years in the wild but their average lifespan is only 2 years due to predation by cats, hawks and other predators.
